Toni Martinez
Appearances 7
Goals 7

I've seen him play twice and I was impressed, upfront in a 4-4-2 with either Carroll or Ayew it's worth a chance!

Re: Toni Martinez
Master,

I'm pretty sure there's no restriction on players under 21 coming in from outside the 25 due to their nationality (work permits if they were non EU notwithstanding). The 'homegrown' thing only affects the 25 man squad and so we couldn't, for example, count him as a homegrown player within that - not that there would be any need to anyway.

Re: Toni Martinez
Someone on KUMB reckons Bilic has looked at Martinez and been impressed and says he would like to give him some playing time in the 2nd half season. Probably bollocks but you never know when we're 4-0 up against Palace he might get 10 minutes....

Re: Toni Martinez
wasn't in the 25 man squad and doesn't count as a young player as he was from overseas. hence can't have played.

this SHOULD be fixed this window however, and young westley's example of nepotism should be banned.

Fletchers got flat feet, he'll never make it.

Alfs, you getting mixed up with Tony Angelino?

Someone should advise him to change the I to y unless he's aiming for a career as a hairdresser.

Re: Toni Martinez
I don't care if he is ready or not... with a name like that he needs to be in a velvet suit, white open necked shirt and medallion and belting out ballads at the East Ham Working Man's club on Saturday evenings.

"Pweeese willease me, leeettt me go!!! "

Re: Toni Martinez
Perhaps they don't think he's ready at all. In fairness any forward coming in to our first xi right now is in for a shock - you stand on your own 20 yards from any team mate and occasionally a half decent cross comes your way

Having said that Harry Kane and Marcus rashford were both just chucked in out of desperation...

Re: Toni Martinez
Probably some financial clause where we have to pay him more if he makes the first team.

Re: Toni Martinez
Surely he'd be ahead of Calleri, who was a) not even our player and b) obviously shit.

Re: Toni Martinez
That said, I don't get it either, but you've got to assume they do. If the likes of Reid etc are not giving him a sniff in training then they'll know he's not ready.

Re: Toni Martinez
I'm shocked he's not been given a run out at least after his form of late!!

If we're not gonna play him why don't we offer 12m + Martinez on loan to Brentford....i think he'd do well there and it'd be good for us for him to get some experience !!

Perhaps they don't think he's ready? Lots of players score bundles in the yoots but aren't ready for the Prem.

Re: Toni Martinez
Is there a different reason why this kid hasn't even made the bench yet for the first team, when Calleri was still somehow getting on there until recently?
Could it be we're warehousing him for another club to get round some obscure rule?

Has scored Premier League goals, works hard and appears not to be made of glass.
Needs must

Re: Toni Martinez
If Sakho and Carrol could stay fit for the rest of the season, we'd be absolutely fine.

But they won't. They probably won't last out December.

And as a long-time follower of these scenarios, I know the next step is bringing in either a) someone another team has given up ope on for a reason or b) someone who looks like a good fit who then also gets injured almost immediately.

It's great being a West Ham fan. You always get a dash of hope thrown in to the mix each time things fall apart.

El Scorchio 12:03 Tue Dec 6
Re: Toni Martinez
Fletcher and Carroll for me, until Sakho is back.

However, we NEED to sign someone who can stay fit and knows where the net is in January.

Fletcher has bags of potential and was probably one of the few to emerge with any credit from saturday, but we can't put too much on his shoulders. Carroll needs to do what he's not been able to do thus far and play for six months without missing any significant time.

FMOB There are some comedy statements on here and this is another one of them...

What fantastic, unstoppable goal machine will be begging their agents to get them to sign for us? We're in a relegation scrap already and you think some world top class striker will want to join the fun... Mate you know less about the game than my fucking dog!

Sven Roeder 11:54 Tue Dec 6
Re: Toni Martinez
Carroll or Fletcher should start , think we showed in the last 15 mins as Arsenal walked through our non-existent midfield that you cant play these two together.
Martinez deserves a bench spot while Zaza should be given a yellow cap and be put on crowd control.
